At last, after over 30 years, Royston has its own independent bookshop again, where a wide range of books can be explored, discussed, purchased and ordered. A vital focal point where the community can celebrate the huge benefits of ‘the book’, for all ages. Times have changed. Book buying opportunities exist away from the High Street. Pressures abound for the viability of retailing generally and for traditional bookshops specifically, with competition from the internet, supermarkets and corporates. Bow Books meets that threat head on. New book special orders are price matched with Amazon. ‘Different’ titles are promoted at tempting prices, plus a loyalty scheme. And ‘three for two’ applies, not only to our unique range of second hand books, but crucially also to all our children’s books to incentivise the next generation to catch the ‘book bug’. For more than half of his over 50 years in a wide variety of publishing and bookselling roles, Paul Bowes was the proprietor of the Book Castle in Dunstable - a widely praised, independent bookshop and local interest publisher. At Bow Books, along with younger family members and other supporters, he now offers Royston and the surrounding villages the same personal service. In supplying books for all ages and tastes, Bow Books provides everyone with the chance to browse and handle a wide range of books in their own local town.
